Finished 1Q84, my seventh book into the Murakami universe. It is indeed a long-ass book!
Murakami again pushes us into a world mixed with everyday activities, supernatural occurrences, philosophical questions, and love.
This is my first time reading Murakami in English and it turns out to be a slightly different experience than reading the Chinese translations. It almost feels like the coldness and calmness of his book, possibly deeply rooted in East Asian cultures, is harder to express in English. The result is a lukewarm text that sits somewhere in between. Nonetheless, I enjoyed it.
